Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy S8 on 28th March 2017 and we know pretty much everything about it now.
So here is what we know so far about the device-
Galaxy S8 will come in two models- The Galaxy S8 and The Galaxy S8 Plus. The S8 model will have a 5.8-inch display whereas the S8 Plus will have a 6.2-inch display. Both the displays will have an aspect ratio of 18:9. There will be no ‘non-edge’ model this time around as both the phones will have curved sides and curved back and the display will be almost bezel-less.
One strange thing that we have seen on the leaked pictures is the placement of the fingerprint sensor. Unlike last year’s model or unlike any other Galaxy model, the fingerprint sensor will be on the back side of the phone, right beside the camera module and not on the front. S8 is rumoured to have the same 12MP camera module that we saw on the S7 and Note7.
On the front side of the phone, we’ll have an iris scanner on top like we saw on the Note7, and the button will be GONE!. Samsung will ditch the home button and the capacitive keys for an on-screen keys setup!. The design of the on-screen navigation keys will be different from that of stock android and they will also be accessible on the always-on display.
The phones will have USB Type-C Port and also a 3.5mm headphone jack. Powering the phones will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor which we have already seen on the LG G6. The device is also likely to be IP68 water resistant and to have a non-removable battery, like the Galaxy S7.
New voice assistant from Samsung will also be making its debut on the S8/S8 Plus. Bixby is what the internet is calling Samsung’s new voice assistant service. It may be based on technology from Viv Labs, an artificial intelligence company founded by some of the creators of Siri which Samsung bought last year.
Bixby will be expected to:
- Handle payments.
- Control native apps.
- Identify object and text through the camera app.
- Feature its own launch button (on the phone’s right side).
- Launch in seven or eight languages.
Samsung will be unveiling both the phones on 28th March 2017 and the phones are expected to launch globally on 21st April 2017.
